The Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Service helps you identify, document and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities you have acquired on the job (workplace learning) or through life experiences.
Are you a good PLAR candidate?
Take our self-assessment quiz and find out if you are a good candidate for PLAR.
Two options with PLAR
Once your learning in a particular field of study is identified and documented, you may apply to have your knowledge, skills and abilities assessed for possible academic credit or professional recognition.
Important Information
Please note that being accepted as a PLAR candidate is not the same as applying to Douglas College to become a student. In many instances you will be advised to formally apply to a particular program of study before starting PLAR. This is because some credit programs have very specific academic, personal, health suitability and safety requirements. Similarly, the awarding of credit in a particular field of study does not guarantee acceptance into a program.
PLAR courses and credits are not eligible for Student Loans.
