Douglas College provides $250,000 in entrance awards for new students in honour of 50th anniversary

Fifty students starting at Douglas College in Fall 2020 will receive an entrance scholarship up to $2500 in celebration of the College’s 50th anniversary.

The Douglas College 50th Anniversary Award recognizes domestic and international students who excel in their studies, as well as contribute significantly to their school and community in the areas of social justice or truth and reconciliation for Indigenous peoples.

“For 50 years, Douglas College has supported outstanding students as they pursue their educational goals,” said Leanne Poon, executive director of the Douglas College Foundation. “It’s an honour to continue that tradition and commitment through this new award supporting new students coming to Douglas who do amazing things in their communities.”

The $250,000 is allocated as 50 awards of $2,500 each for the 2020/2021 academic year – $1,250 disbursed in the Fall 2020 semester and $1,250 in the Winter 2021 semester. Students who maintain a 3.0 GPA will have the option to renew for the 2021/2022 academic year and receive $1,250 in the Fall 2021 semester and $1,250 in the Winter 2022 semester.

Eligible students must be entering a full-time Douglas College credential program and have a minimum admissions GPA of 3.0. To renew, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be enrolled in a minimum of nine credits for the current term.

Award applicants are also required to submit a 1,000 word essay outlining their contributions to their community, as well as two letters of reference from members of their school or community.

All applicants who submit an application will be notified of the College’s decision by April 15, 2020. Award and scholarship application forms and instructions are available at
