Douglas College is one of the first post-secondary institutions in B.C. to offer the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF). Courses will begin in January 2018 and will qualify students to write the ACAF National Exams administered by CPA Canada.
“Labour statistics predict a huge demand for accountants, and our goal is to ensure our students have the skills to fill these positions,” says Arsineh Garabedian, Chair of the Accounting Department at Douglas College.
The ACAF certification is catered for students who want to gain intermediate accounting and finance skills. Certified professionals will be equipped with the advanced technical accounting skills demanded by many of Canada’s top employers, plus hands-on experience with industry-specific software.
To ensure Douglas College’s accounting programs are relevant and reflective of the current accounting industry, they are created with guidance from an external program advisory committee, which includes senior level professionals from both CPA and the CPA Western School of Business.
“The CPA Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance qualification will provide our students with the job-ready skills required of intermediate-level accountants while will help them secure careers in a number of industries,” says George Stroppa, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration.
Douglas College is the largest degree-granting college in B.C., combining the academic foundations of a university and the employer-ready skills of a college to provide the most relevant and inspiring undergraduate experience in British Columbia.
