Lest We Forget: WWI Commemoration Project

See the heartfelt and historically informed commemorations to individual local soldiers and nurses who served in World War I (1914-1918) by Douglas College History students.

As part of a national project, the students researched an individual soldier or nurse in depth using archival holdings to discover the particulars of their physical profile at the time of enlistment: their training and deployments, their spirit of adventure and the loves left behind, their injuries and sickness, the medals they earned and – quite often – details of their violent deaths and subsequent interment.

These creative commemorations – which include poems and collages - are on display at Queensborough Community Centre (920 Ewen Ave, New Westminster) until Nov. 17.
