Employee Development

Douglas College is committed to supporting employees develop.  As such there are many ways employees can access to a rich variety of development offerings, internally and externally, that support employees develop their skills for current and future opportunities with the College.  The following are a few ways College employees may access development opportunities:

  • College-wide Professional Development days provide all employees with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in topics that are relevant to the College community
  • Department or special group Professional Development days allow these teams to enhance their development through focused learning days
  • Article 21 funding: this program allow eligible regular staff (employee group included in the Collective Agreement between the College and the BCGEU) to apply for professional development funds up to $1500 every two years
  • Faculty Professional Development Funds
  • College Study Benefits that allow employees to access Douglas College courses (eligibility varies by employee group)
  • Eligible excluded employees may access the Admin Professional Development funds that is accumulated at $500 per year and can be accessed at the end of their probation period
  • Professional Development leaves (varies by employee group)
  • Various regular internal training opportunities such as management skills, respectful workplace, health and safety, systems and IT, etc.
  • All employees can access online learning opportunities through lynda.com, CCDI and Homewood Health
