Theatre

In year one, students focus on building foundational acting, movement, and voice skills with an emphasis on ensemble development, building a cohesive cohort with a strong sense of personal agency. 

In year two, students get on-stage experience acting in two full productions supported by professional directors, designers, and industry coaches. 

The diploma program doesn't just prepare students for an acting career. It is also the first step in the many different career pathways in the arts including directing, producing, arts administration, and drama education. Through workshops and hands-on experience, students will gain career skills that are immediately applicable in roles such as ticket sales and audience support.

Many graduates continue with their education and complete a bachelor's degree. Credits earned at Douglas College are transferable to the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Victoria.  Graduates also have the ability to apply their credits toward a bachelor’s degree at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in the United Kingdom.

Applications for the Theatre Diploma program open October 1st. Seats are limited; applying early is encouraged. 
The first step is to apply for admission to Douglas College. Once applicants have met the general college entrance requirements, they will be invited to submit a summary of previous acting experience and a photo and then attend an audition and interview.

General tuition and fees for domestic students are approximately $6,500 per year. Students have access to multiple performance, academic, and need based awards offered by the College. We also provide students with information about scholarships and awards that are available from other organizations.
